What is Pond Cleaning?

Orvis Hot Springs has a seasoned "pond cleaning crew" of paid staff and volunteers who take on the task of thoroughly cleaning our 40 foot wide spring fed pond. This eight to ten person crew utilizes two pumps to drop the water level and three power sprayers to clean the rocks, while simultaneously skimming and sweeping the gravel bottom. While we do not offer massage during pond cleaning hours, the lobby and our other soaking areas remain open.

Pond cleaning requires that we close down the main pond from 7 AM to 2 PM once or twice a month, depending on the time of year. In the summer we clean the pond every three weeks and in the winter when the sun is lower and there is less algae growth we clean it every four weeks. During pond cleaning we often undertake other projects on the grounds, such as trimming weeds (pictured at right) and pumping the septic tank.

When Do You Clean the Other Ponds?

The two indoor private tubs are cleaned every morning.

The indoor pool is vacuumed every morning and cleaned every three weeks.

The island pond & smoker's pond are cleaned every Thursday and the lobster pot is cleaned every other Tuesday.
